:I recently Built a Redfish kayak from basswood with blood wood accents which is very hard wood. As you sand it you will notice that the hardwood stands proud of the softer woods. I then come back with a sharp cabinet scraper the take down the harder wood. It takes a bit of time but works great....good luck and have fun....it looks awesome when it's done
