What you chose will depend on the boat. Maybe preaching to the choir, but I just discovered that 1/2" thick pad in my new narrow boat made a HUGE difference in the stability of the boat. With the pad removed and me sitting just that little bit lower it was like sitting in a different boat. I was totally amazed at the difference. So if you built one of Tom's Sea Rangers, or Sea Riders you want to keep your bottom as low as possible.
