: Btw, the staple holes pretty much disapear when the boat's done.
I've only seen one strip boat before, and it was a huge disappointment up close after seeing it shimmer brightly from across the room. If it's possible to screw it up, as I contend that it is, it is likely that I would screw it up.
: Also need some way to
: clamp the strips between the forms to each other, the hot glue/staples/C
: clamps only hold at the forms and the strips will separate between the
: forms. Masking tape works pretty well for this.
For the form to form clamping, I was intending to do the fishing line technique from WoodenBoat sometime last year, as well as masking tape between forms as needed. In the article, they screwed the sheer, which is what set me off on my quest for a better way.
: The hot glue holds the strips to the forms, the clamps and C shaped plywood
: pieces hold the strips in place while the glue sets
The unstated goals for my question were to avoid holes in the sheer (like in the magazine) and to avoid purchasing another 36 clamps. It seems to me that in the photos I've seen, such as in Christian Grejsens's, the clamps at the sheer stay there at least until the hull is nearly closed.
I think, though, that I've arrived at a satisfactory conclusion. If I clamp & hot glue like in Rod Tait's plans, there is nothing to stop me from screwing the L-shaped jig to the form and taking my clamps with me.
Does hot glue stick to MDF or paper? Is there a better grade of hot glue I should be looking for?
