This method seems to work real good at applying pressure. I had thought about attaching the band to the clamp too. That would make it even faster to apply. It's not that hard to just hold it by hand though. I can also see the benefit in using a wider band like an inner tube. I have been loosely placing an 1/8" scrap strip on the edge prior to clamping to prevent crushing any corners.

This is the technique I was using at the time of my original post. I think I'm going to have to learn to work in increments or maybe use shorter strips. My problems are more "work time" related rather than clamping technique. Not that it's a big problem, just the perfectionist in me wanting to get an idea how you pros are doing it.
