Hi Claudia,

For the hatch lips, I like the One Ocean Kayaks method. It provides flush and waterproof hatches. You can get a good idea from the "workshop" section of his website.

I've been using under-deck bungees for my hatches, but will probably try magnets for my next one. They should be easy to incorporate into the OOK hatch lips. The only two drawbacks that I can think of are the wider hatch lips required to house the magnets, and possible interference with compasses/electronics. From other's reports, however, magnets won't really affect your compass or GPS as long as you keep them 18" or more away from the magnets.
