No oil-based stain of any kind. Epoxy won't adhere. You need to use aniline dye, which is water- or alcohol-based. Alcohol-based is easier to use because it doesn't raise the grain, but it's not as essential when you're building a boat you're going to fiberglass. I've never seen dyes sold as anything but a concentrate, either liquid or powder. Stick to a major brand like Solar-Lux or TransTint. A lot of people have used them with success. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for application- but you might want to dilute more than recommended and put on more coats to be sure that it's on evenly.
