Works similiar to a conventional internal bungie, there's plenty of force to hold the hatch in place, too much usually, which is why I like a way to release the force to make getting in the hatch easier. On mine the bungies just attach in the middle of the hatch, you do have to play around a little with the placement to get the hatch secure in the first place.

Problem I have right now is I've apparently misplaced my drawings (no big surprise there if you've seen my shop ) and I changed to external bungies on the last boat which don't hold as well. Don't ask me why I did that
