Maybe you have been working with the lacquer too much lately. That's how it affects me.
Spraying varnish works quite well with a HVLP gun. Once I got the viscosity and gun settings dialed in, it was a piece of cake. There was virtually no overspray. Use a good grade of Marine spar and stay away form anything that is catalized. Dont forget a good respirator.
