I did not like the look of the shearwater so I asked this forum about a compact double about 3 years ago. I ended up building the alpha test of the Lunada Bay by Chris Ostlind. You can find the design info and pictures on the Duckworks magazine site. It is 18 feet long, but that means you can build it lighter. I expect you will be able to get it under 60 lb. without too much effort. Chris is really good to work with. It lean turns well enough that I did not put on a rudder.
: Hi forum. I want to make a stitch and glue double for my wife and self. We're
: in early fifties. I've done a lot of paddling; my wife has done a little.
: Paddling will mostly be in Sydney harbour and local salt water rivers.
: A big stable tub would be good to begin with but I hate the thought of a
: paddling one once my wife become a little more proficient.
: I'm thinking of a CLC Sports Tandem. Any comments? Alternatives?
: Thanks
: Peter
