: I know this has hundreds of threads already. I have read many.
: But now I need very specific advice. My kayak building buddy wants to put a
: permanent skeg on his Night Heron. Not with cables to be withdrawn into a
: sleeve. We are looking for advice on size, location, materials, etc.
: It can be fixed to the bottom or at the back. Whatever will work well.
: Much appreciated.
I think I'd start with strips of wood applied to the bottom aft with duct tape then test each till you find the size and location that works best. Shouldn't take much to make it handle the way he wants. That's what was recommended to me once for a SOF.
Once you know the size and location, glassing them onto the bottom should be fairly easy.
