: I use sheer clamps at the ends where reaching the joint is difficult, then

Bill, thanks for the information. I was considering something like this, so maybe I'll go with that. I don't like the sheer clamps much at all (they get in the way of my knees and feet sometimes) so maybe just taking them out of the cockpit area is an option.
