I never find any decent 2x4x8 footer cedar anymore, I do though find 10 or even 12 footers that I can get a decent piece out of. That or a 2x6 or even a 2x8 that I can get a piece or two out of. Also have used 4x4's that can be cut in half to get wood for two paddles.

Laminating is easy enough if you have enough clamps.
