I can see one big problem: safety. The neoprene skirt is flexible, and it shields your torso from the kayak. This allows you to move without hurting yourself, which seems to me impossible if the hole is just big enough for your hips.
On the other hand, I really don't want to see myself in the middle of the water with a solid piece of wood around my waist
