While there have been improvements in materials and construction techniques over time, the basic designs and principles are still the same. Stretchy neoprene may have replaced tied-on leather, but the underlying concept and function hasn't changed at all. It's still about attaching the kayaker to the kayak with a flexible, waterproof connection.
