: Hi Jay,
: As Bryan said, I'm following Tom Yost's manual and although in future may use
: the lacing method, in this instance it's intended to be a fast build, as I
: go away in a week and want to take it with me. So staples will be quicker
: and easier, and as the kayak will be black PVC no-one will see the
: staples.
: Bryan, I guess you're right, the deck will hold the hull PVC in place once
: glued so staples are a little redundant. But as I'll be paddling in salt
: water regularly, if I can get s/steel I'll use it. May involve buying a
: new stapler to fit the staples I can get.
: Thanks,
: Darren
Btw, there is another way, Seam Stick, the cheap version you can get at Walmart or any fabric place. It's basically a double sided tape that's heat set. Apply to the gunwale, iron in place, remove the backing then after the fabric is attached iron to the hold in place. Yes it does work, not the strongest, but holds long enough to glue the fabric in place and it can't rust.
