: Any reason not to sew on the skin damp? Maybe wet it the night before so it
: would be stretched?
Sure, you can wet the skin first, but I would soak it and not take it out of the water until you're ready to use it. Some people even spray it periodically during the skinning process.
That said, I've also heard of concerns that doing this could result in the skin damaging the frame as it shrinks. I don't know if this is purely speculation or if anyone has actually experienced frame damage from shrinkage.
BTW, I didn't do anything to the Nylon skin on my current boat other than a light heat-shrinking after I skinned it and it's remained acceptably taut, albeit not "drum tight" as it was originally.
