What woods other than ash are good for layering up a cockpit lip? I can get cedar to work if I go to ~0.050" thick (3/8" wide)and soak it for 20 minutes or so. Even then, the boat I'm working on (Petrel) curves upwards from the back of the cockpit, and then down again (slightly) as you near the front. It's a real bear trying to get even the thin cedar to follow these compound curves. Maybe ash wouldn't be any better. My copy of Nick's new book is on it's way and I'm hoping he has some secrets to share on this part of the build.

BTW ... having built 2 Shearwater Hybrids, I thought I was ready for the Petrel. I was wrong!
