I thought that Atlatl was a generic name for anything that helped you throw something and therefore applied it to the Norsaq.
So the plans in this URL: http://www.thudscave.com/npaa/designs/norsaq3.htm will use a dowel or something on the harpoon for it to push it forward (throw)?
Is the norsaq cantilevered through an arc when throwing the harpoon like the arrow throwing atlatl?
Sorry I am so thick at understanding this special tool.
I looked for a Norsaq throw on UTUbe but only got rolls! Which reminds me..... i also saw a tool very similar to the Norsaq but it was called a "rolling paddle" Presumably it helps in the rolling procedure.
: Hi Brian,
: If I have you right, you are meaning a norsaq rather than an atlatl throwing
: board/stick. An atlatl launches the dart from the very end of the dart,
: the atlatl hook fits the butt of the dart.
: A norsaq and harpoon connects partway up the shaft from the butt. Either by
: pegs set into the harpoon or norsaq that fits into matching holes.
: Mechanically, they work a bit differently. An atlatl uses spring in both dart
: and stick to add power or distance in addition to the users muscles.
: The norsaq and harpoon are more rigid, there is little flex in the system and
: is more dependent on muscle power for distance/power of the throw.
: Hope this helps,
