Yes, that guy was me. I can say for sure that you would want to make sure that no water can enter the boat when putting it into a bucket of water.

I ended up having to fill up the void through the grip holes and did that in two attempts. That and the clean-up around the hole was a bit more time than I planned on spending on these end-pours.

If I had to do it again, I would skip the bucket and do the end-pour in two steps to avoid the over-heating. Another option would be to do all of the fill coats first, which should render a water-tight hull. I thought I was clever in doing the grip holes before finishing the fill coats, but it didn't work out.
