I'm not sure Kayak Polo ever was a fad in the states. It is definitely fun. We have about 60+ people that currently play on and off every week with about 30 regulars. We are currently using Jackson whitewater play boats (little rotomolded kayaks) which are easily for beginners to get around in. Some of the more serious players recently went to San Marcos, TX to play with the Austin club and had a blast. They hosted a great mini-tournament for us. I think this sport (yes, sport) will be taking off in America much like rest of the world soon. We plan to get more serious both nationally and internationally, which means meeting the standards set for boats.
Anyway...thanks a lot to everyone for the advice. I will definitely track down a copy of the book recommended and I think I can come up with a general materials list to estimate the cost.
Thanks
Rob
