That's similar to the method that Bill Lowe used on his commercial SOF boats. He sealed the fabric (13 oz. polyester) with multiple coats of oil-based ZAR, then applied a top coat of a two-part polyurethane (Gaco UA-7000). I can attest to the fact that his boat skins were incredibly durable
