What affects stability is the vertical center of gravity of the kayaker plus kayak combination. The kayaker typically weighs 2 1/2 to four times what the kayak weighs and has a center of gravity probably two to three times higher than that of the kayak. Any increase in paddler weight, assuming no drastic change in body proportions, will increase the combined center of gravity significantly.
