: Good point about end pours. I have eliminated them entirely by using softwood
: wedges glued to the ply sides before hull assembly and planed to the
: half-angle of the stem, then simply glued. Stronger than ply, lighter than
: resin.
You know, I think using a softwood would be better, at least it would keep things stronger at the ends.
: I also don't bother with glassing. It's easier to handle a light boat gently
: and IMHO it's not necessary for a ply boat used in flat water if your
: seams are good.
Handle a boat gently? Who me? Easier? Hmmm! If I can do that, it would be a first for me. Ever heard the saying about the bull in a china shop? Hee! Hee! That said, I will be ever so gentle with this kayak. No starting on the rocks and shoving off, no ice running, I'll have to watch for submerged rocks on the river (of which there are many large ones just below the surface) so no star gazing and not watching where I am going, no sitting on the decks, no distracted photography, no running over dead heads, no jamming the bow into the shoreline, no more playing bumper boats....hey waitaminute...why am I building this thing again? I think I just might give it a brass rub strip on the bow end of business.
