Thanks for your suggestions so far. Many of you have suggested epoxying a pad eye of some type inside the compartment to secure the deck plate lid. I planned on that part :)

But how would you suggest I secure the tether to the deck plate lid? Epoxy a pad eye to the underside? We were looking at it at work yesterday, and considered drilling some small holes into the sides of the recessed parts (where you put your fingers in to unscrew it) and then just sealing the holes and cord with some sealant of choice (Lexel, Aquaseal, Epoxy) Leaning towards the flexible sealants in case the tether cord needs replacement in the future.

Concerned that just drilling into the side of the deck plate lid, and tying a cord to that hole, would just bung up the threads when trying to screw the plate in...

Thanks again,
Brian

: Also, this deck plate has no place underneath the screw in part where I could
: attach a tether. I don't want to drill in to the side of the screw
: threads, and tie in some thin cording, because I figure it would interfere
: with screwing it in. Can I just rough up the underside of the plate, and
: epoxy something on, to which I could tie a tether?

: Thanks,
: Brian
