I still strongly believe that dustbin lids on a broomstick give the greatest stroke length to power ratio of all paddles while still allowing the blades to clear the sheer-line. For effective bracing they are also unbeatable. As for turning strokes..., well it must surely be obvious. Feathered or unfeathered, that is the only real ponderable. I personally think a paddle that can be rotated on the fly so that the dustbin lids can be used for upwind or downwind work is the best possible option.
