For comparison, I think I paid ~$28 for a GALLON of Zar last time.

True. I typically apply one coat per day.

That makes sense, as artist's oil colors are not glossy.

Although Zar is also oil-based, Dura-Tuff is much more noxious. I find with Zar that the solvent flashes off within the first hour and you're left with just the scent of the oil/resin curing, which can be strong, but it isn't unpleasant and is not harmful or intoxicating.
