: I once filled similar gaps on the underside of a deck with water based glue
: and cedar dust fill. Later when the kayak was in the sun, the glue
: softened with the heat and either moved under the glass or was absorbed
: into the wood, leaving voids. I'd suggest filling with something else
: (such as the epoxy/microballons that you mention). Epoxy can soften too,
: but I think that it is less likely to move than the glue.

I am afraid that I was unclear in my description. The product that I have been experimenting with for small cosmetic gap repair on the deck is Elmers Wood Filler, Red Oak Color not my own mix of glue and red oak dust. Does any one care to "weigh-in" on this product?
