I sewed with sinew. I liked the sticky wax on it because it held it's tightness whereas when I tried fishing line, I could loose my entire efforts of pulling it tight unless I kept constant pressure on it or tied it off at intervals. You can also peel off groups of strands of the sinew if you do want it thinner.
