Thank you. I can see where that would be a useful technique on the width, and would have been worth a try before I messed up the original material.

: I have cut weatherstripping to make it narrower. Stick a razor blade in a
: block of wood so the edge angles down into the wood. Glue some fences on
: either side of the, one 1/2" from the blade, the other the width of
: the existing gasket away on the other.

: Start a slot by hand and then feed it into the blade. Pull on the split end
: and you will get a nice strip the width you want.

: The thickness will definitely compress although it may take a week or two.
