I think its better to offer warnings to greenhorns (that includes me) than to keep it to yourself. That is one reason why I don't mind embarrassing myself by telling my story about running over the rapid and nearly dying. Sometimes I wonder if doing so has kept some of our kayaking friends alive. I am still thankful I made that mistake. I am certain that it has allowed me to keep paddling while not making any further life-threatening blunders. I do know that some kayaking instructors are using this story to cement the idea into the heads of new paddlers that they really have to be careful while they are in a kayak.
