Thank you for making this point. It's something that I thought of myself. A few feet really shouldn't make as big of a difference as I was noticing. I'm starting with ab work tonight, and making running a regular thing starting tomorrow before work. That said, one factor may be that we were in what was to me a fairly fierce current and some gusting winds (once on the beach, it literally tossed my kayak in the air and made it do some rolls). My friend had a skeg deployed whereas I don't have one. Going across the current and 45 degrees into the wind, I may have been spending more energy staying straight. Still, he was paddling at about the same energy level as me and got across the strait several minutes ahead of me. At any rate, I don't need an excuse to build another boat, just want to do it!
