In Response To: The Long Boat Myth *LINK* *Pic* (Kudzu)

This has been very interesting. I think it would be good to remember that in Dyson's kayak travels he used long kayaks that he sailed. Sails provide far more horsepower than any human crew can muster. And in that realm the longer kayaks could strut their stuff in favorable winds, while admitedly having far more skin friction than their shorter counterparts.

Dyson't kayaks also had creature comfort and cargo capacity that made them heavier, but also more stable and seakinkly.

Perhaps there is a place to discuss the differences between recreational and voyaging kayaks.... the "smart car" vs the "ford explorer".

And it's well to remember that those 3 hole boats were often handled by one man, so it's not out of the question for comparison to the present discussion.
