: I will be picking up a s & G 12 foot kayak fairly soon. It has been
: through a few owners and I will be painting it with Interlux--plan on
: white hull and blue deck. Since the paint is fairly expensive I was
: wondering how much I might need. I have no idea how wide it is but it is
: not a barge. I have read the tips from CLC on painting and it seems
: straight forward. I am sure it will not look like a factory job but I
: guess I can always sand and do more coats till I get it right.
In the last 3 days I put 3 coats of varnish on my old 17'x23"ish stripper. I used about 1/2 - 2/3 of a quart for the job.
Last year I put 3 coats of interlux brightside paint on a 16'x48" rowboat. It took a little under 2 quarts to do both the inside and outside of the hull.
Thin it a little bit if necessary to roll, roll on a small area with a small disposable foam roller, then brush over the area you rolled to knock out the bubbles. Roll the next area, brush. Keep a wet edge.
A lot of people use porch paint on boats. It's a lot cheaper than "boat" paint and is fine for a boat that is removed from the water for storage.
