Why not look at simply covering the bars with high density pipe insulation foam or purchase the foam blocks for kayaks and fit them to the bars where you need them. My trailer has 1 in. sq. aluminum bars, so I took the blocks and ripped the slots through my table saw so they fit snugly on the bars.
