Ken, how would you get pressure points on the sides of your thighs? I experienced that with poor fitting hip braces and some hung aluminium frames (first Necky Chatham16) and fiberglass hung seats (Mariner Express).

It makes sense to have lateral support at your hips since that's where all your weight will rest when leaning and rolling but not thighs. I was surprised at how useful inner thigh support was on a few seats. That's probably more snug fitting than most folks like but on the seats I made where the side butt/hip support was good (because the block of foam was thick) the pressure on my knees/thighs dropped off a LOT for rolling and it was a lot easier to balance the kayak on the edge of capsize. From what I've seen folks think of a seat as a cushion with a right angle hip brace instead of something that you can lay sideways in and vertically with support the whole way.
