: Look at dock edge bumper. Typically hollow D shape, a couple of inches
: across, with edge flanges. Some are flexible enough to wrap around a
: square bar. Some have edges that form a right angle. Drill holes through
: the sections through which to run zip ties. I've been using this stuff for
: years on my rack. I occasionally replace a lost or worn section.

Cross bars on this trailer are 1 1/4" square steel tube. So the bumpers have to be fairly narrow.
