Spanner in the works ... do not build a Greenland kayak first . You cannot haul anything bigger than your lunch , they are strictly day kayaks with very minimal storage , for beginners they are tippy and that can be deadly especially in colder water ie. below 70F . Depending on your skill level and needs a Greenland kayak can be a dream or a waste of time. Be honest about your abilities , it is your life at risk. Take lessons and try a variety of kayaks before you build - you will be glad of it.

I wish my first kayak was a stable cargo hauler , they are just more useful period. Tom Yost has the Sea Dart which may have a high enough deck for your feet - if not then it could be raised .

Many modern Greenland kayak paddlers paddle while wearing the thinnest footwear possible some go barefoot. My feet are size 9 , and when in the normal splayed position need 7" of vertical space for comfortable paddling and that is barefoot.
