: What you describe is exactly what I have on the plans for the Outer Island.

I do the same thing except I use WRC because it's lighter.
Only downside to using ply is you're no longer stapling into the edges of the ply and it's sometimes difficult to staple to the side of plywood and get the staples into the plywood. Also plywood tends to be fairly heavy compared to common softwood.
