Or, go very lightweight and make an inflatable float. It is a quick and inexpensive project. When deflated it takes almost no space to store.

Make the mounting arm from a common 2x4 board roughly shaped like a greenland paddle. It can serve as an emergency paddle. If you lose your primary paddle it will be heavy, but it will get you home.

Just a thought.
