: They are normally ripped from dressed 4/4 stock. Commonly 4/4 softwoods are
: planed to a thickness of 3/4 inches, but that is not always the case. The
: thickness can vary. Thicker boards will give you wider strips. Some cedar
: boards are sold with only one face planed. The other face is left rough.
: Ripping these will give you slightly wider strips, but if you put bead and
: cove edges on these strips that rough edge is removed during the milling.
: If you use bead and cove strips the effective face of the strip is reduced by
: the (approximately) 1/8th inch that the bead nests inside the cove. if
: your plain strips start out as 3/4 inches wide, you'll have an exposed
: face of just 5/8 inch.

Oops, I think I meant 'How thick?' I'm going to have to rip with a circular saw (blade held down, like a circular saw, not up, like a table saw), and I want to make sure my ripping guide can get close enough to the blade to yield the strips I need.
