Here is the trick. Roll up a tower into a tight cylinder and set it on the ground. Set your loaded kayak (with 15 pound ballast) on it with it acting as a fulcrum centered fore and aft. Now, with all of your kayak garb on, sit in the kayak holding your paddle and gorilla walk your kayak foreword and aft until it balances on the towel roll. Mark the balance point on your kayak (use masking tape). Now remove the ballast and get back in the kayak and wiggle forward sitting in the cockpit until the kayak balances over the marked point. Measure how far you have moved (I guess it will be about 6 inches). Move the seat, backband and adjust the footbraces then go test paddle in a crosswind and fine adjust the seat location. Finally make any necessary kayak modifications to match.
