The only thing I use the radial arm for is square cross cuts. I don't have a chop saw and I was given this by a friend a couple years ago. Does the job, but like I said, you have to be careful. All my father had was a radial arm, and he was a better woodworker than I am likely to be. Very careful and methodical. I'm kinda slapdash. I just use the pile and plane method for scarfs myself. Takes time, but I love planing, so I don't really care. I also have a jointer plane which makes it sort of fun. If I ever start making a lot of skin on frames, I'll probably change my ways. That ends up being a LOT of planing.
