hi,

i recently placed mine on the right side of cockpit "in the shade of" the rim and a little in front of my seat but not so far front that a bolt could press against my leg.

i've added a small eyelet (?) both in front and back of the cleat and ran the up cord thru these, and put a small button at the end so it can't slip back but stays where i can find it without looking.

this gave reliable and quick one hand operation as the blade is pulled down by a bungee cord as is usual nowadays.

btw., mine is only a skeg but built as an overstern rudder and removable. the advantage is that i can pull it up into the air in a second and then the wind shall push my stern down and my turn into the wind is quick and easy. paddling into the wind i can leave it up to reduce drag and help keep my bow in the wind's eye.
