Hi Phil,

The scalloping is easily accomplished with the wall removed, just mark your heel location before removing. It is important to scallop and not tunnel so there is no place for your foot to catch upon exit. Scalloping also retains most of the vertical strength.

I have also bandsaw cut the toes and heels off of Converse shoes for expeditioning footwear to gain more room.
