Hi Danny

A lot of people apply epoxy to the bare wood so that they can be sure of a good wet-out of the glass. The first coat seals the bare wood so that it doesn't suck up a lot of the epoxy that you want to stay in the glass. Not everyone thinks this is necessary but it may be a good idea the first time around. I did it on mine and got perfect wet-out.
