I havn't posted since I started to build but have watched the topics with interest.
I have completed the hull, all in WRC and all of the deck in WRC and a beautiful piece of burr grained red cherry, with accent lines in black walnut and Tulipwood!?, (It's a good white). I just have the coming now to complete the woodwork.
Question. In Nick's first book, he shows cheek plates as separate "glue on later" pieces. As I will be quite a snug fit in the standard recessed Guillemot cockpit, is there any reason why these can't be made by extending say ten or so of the coming upstand pieces down into the boat and fiberglassing them at the same time as the inside of the deck. Sounds simple but am I missing something.
The boat is 15ft 6" as I first proposed. I am going to fit a stem piece and a slightly deeper stern piece, half keel? to lessen the tendancy for it to wag it's tail.
I shall call it "Gillie" as it is a short guillemot and this is also appropriate since a Gillie is a Scotish water bailiff, and all of my early white water kayaking was on the river Tay north of Perth in Scotland.
I've been taking pictures through the build so will try to post some when I can get my head around the system
