Rob,

IIRC, you wear reading glasses like many of us "seasoned citizens". One of the problems I've found with most new cameras is that almost none of them have optical viewfinders. They force you to use an LCD panel that you can't see clearly unless you have glasses handy and clean, which can be problematic while paddling. To get an optical viewfinder, you may end up having to purchase either a used camera or a compact plus a waterproof housing.

As for keeping the lens clear, the two methods I've used are:

- Dunk the camera and shoot quickly before the water film runs off the lens.

- Lick the lens, shoot, then spit out the salt.
