: As a professional lurker, I think I like the squirting of glue. Actually I
: have built a strip NightHeron and love it. I've also built a lot of
: furniture. I am now going to build a Yost Sea Ranger (wood frame)and will
: glue and screw. Lashing (though they say it won't) seems that it would
: leave "bumps" in the skin.
I build a little furniture too but finding I enjoy the boats a lot more. Yes the lashing do leave some small bumps. But the cordage lays beside its self and not on top so they are not really that noticeable. You can see them in this shot of my last boat.

: I was wondering about the way Tom removes the screw and replaces it with a
: glued dowel, is that necessary? It would seem counter sinking the screw
: and leaving it in would keep sufficient strength.
I see Tom has replied to this. But I have a concern about a screw backing out. Probably not a big chance of it happening but it only takes one to ruin a skin. Powered wood boats obviously have a lot of vibration but they do back out on them sometimes. I removed mine and pegged the holes to keep the water out.
And as Bill(?) mentioned there is the annoying tendency for the screw to split open the plywood. Then you have to repair that or water will get in and rot it. I see a lot of downsides to screws and probably just about as much labor as lashing one. But I have to put my feeling aside sometimes. This is on of those that I am struggling with.
: Kudzu, the name Kudzu, would seem to imply your in the south, anywhere near
: ATL?
: Tim
That is why I chose it years ago. 2-2.5 hours West of you. Over on the Tennessee River. I bet you shop at Redmonds? I have been over in the warehouse looking for old machines. I understand he is getting out of that though.
