Removable and reusable wire ties were introduced many years ago but I haven't seen them for a while and even back then they were only available from distributors selling to industrial users. I don't think they caught on.

A tool for tightening ties is available, just mentioned that in case some of you don't know. If you are using the ties only it gets them really snug much easier and quicker than pliers, and some models trim off the end at the same time. The ties are probably just as good as more traditional binding material, but will leave a more obvious bump.

A bound joint will allow more flexing than a glued joint; some claim this makes for a more durable, shock-reistant boat. I examined an old frame, which was rejected as a reskinning project due to distortion as a result of years of poor storage, and the screwed joints seemed OK to me. I suspect that bound, screwed, glued and screw & glued joints will all be OK if executed well.
