For small pieces it's pretty cheap to use cutting boards, assuming that 3/8" to 1/2" thicknesses will work.

I'd check with the plastic supply houses before I'd go to McMaster Carr, they have everything but their prices are usually pretty high.

Depending on how far outside of Chicago you are (and the direction) I'd recommend Abbott Plastics, Cardinal Plastics and Adapt Plastics in Rockford, IL.
